Starc out of India tour
Marsh struggled with shoulder problems during Australia’s home summer and missed the team’s one-day global tour to New Zealand before the series in India, which is now tied at 1-1.
Meanwhile, Australia’s Mitchell quota is now down to one – uncapped spinner Mitchell Swepson – after Mitchell March went home with a shoulder injury earlier this week.
The series is now all square at 1-1 after India claimed the second Test by 75 runs.
Starc’s injury is the second such blow for the Aussies this week, with all-rounder Mitch Marsh sent home from India due to a shoulder injury. At this stage, there is no clear word on the return for Starc with the team medical staff hopeful he can be fit for the Champions Trophy in June in the UK.
National coach Darren Lehmann was similarly enthused about the prospects of the allrounder’s future at the top level. He will consult with specialists in Australia to take advise for the best course of action.
A potent weapon with the new ball, Cummins is in Australia’s limited-over scheme of things, having featured in the ODI series against New Zealand just last month. But it’s his ability to take the hard wickets here and there that his captain really values.
Starc had batted well in the series, and scored crucial runs (61 in first innings) in the first Test match in Pune to help Australia register a win.
“Again we’ll have a look at the wicket and work out what we do”. If you’d said to us 1-1 after two Test matches you’re not in a bad position, barring not getting enough runs [on final day].
