‘Logan’ Easter Eggs, References And Important X-Men Connections [SPOILERS]

Jackman was a long way from inhabiting the role, but you can also see how malleable his acting muscles were by this point in his career.

The eight-part story is strong for seven parts, before the eighth installment, published in “Wolverine: Giant-Size Old Man Logan” #1. As a result of his prolonged Adamantium poisoning, Logan finds himself wholly outmatched and is subsequently impaled on a sharp tree branch by X-24. Created from a copy of Wolverine’s DNA, Laura, or X-23, is every bit as deadly as her “father”. For all of us, we were keeping our fingers crossed that the audiences would respond to “Logan” the way they have. Logan is as brutal and bleak as any superhero movie in recent memory; they could have called this one X-Men: Apocalypse.

In fact, some fans might argue that Logan doesn’t do enough to fix the continuity problems of the X-Men movie franchise, as the film only acknowledges some basic cursory ties to the other X-Men and/or Wolverine films in the franchise.

I, LIKE so many other Wolverine fans, first watched the footage years ago. As they try to make the deadline for a meeting in North Dakota, they are hotly pursued by a private agency trying to capture the girl.

Still, Logan is extremely well-made – Mangold knows how to frame a shot – and the performances by the leads are top-notch.

One night with my wife, as you do, we were talking about stuff and I mentioned my circumcision and she said: ‘You’re not circumcised’. But the constant, vicious fighting-as Logan faces off against carjackers, a lynch mob, convoys of sinister government ops, and his own genetically engineered doppelganger-leaves little time for further character development. Director James Mangold, who also helmed The Wolverine, said previous year that Jackman even took a pay cut to get 20th Century Fox to release the film with an R-rating.

The film makes no effort to idolize Logan as a hero, either. Although nearly all other mutants have been killed, or are too young, like Laura, to understand their powers, Logan’s gunslinger role is the John Wayne-esque hero.

Superhero sagas have occasionally opted to go deeper and darker (The Dark Knight, for instance), but Logan elects to take the full plunge into pitch-black nihilism.

– What next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Infinity War? It succeeds, nearly entirely, with issues that most of the Marvel films never have the courage to attempt, and there’s something both noble and memorable about that sort of project.
