United Kingdom could trigger Brexit in next 72 hours
Guy Verhofstadt, who is tasked with thrashing out a Brexit deal, said that he hoped to convince other European leaders to allow Britons to keep certain EU rights if they apply for them on an individual basis.
In a letter addressed to the PM, the Labour party called on the PM to guarantee the rights of European Union nationals living in Britain and also give Parliament a vote on the final exit deal. Other countries of the European Union fought against that problem, while the illegal business grew in the British isles.
Currently UK citizens have the right to live, work and travel freely throughout Europe.
Speaking to the BBC’s Radio 4 programme on Friday morning, the former Belgian prime minister described Brexit as a “tragedy” and added that he wants a system for Brits to keep rights of European Union citizenship after Brexit has taken place. It would meet immediately after the United Kingdom triggered Article 50 to vote on its “red lines” for negotiations, such as the requirement for single market members to respect the “four freedoms” of movement of people, goods, services and capital.
Mrs May said: “I’m clear that the way people voted on June 23 for us to leave the European Union, they voted for us in the future not paying huge sums of money into the European Union every year”.
“The challenge we actually face is completely different”. It’s they who need to negotiate with us, ” King told Bloomberg.
“What we know is that I have agreed, the British Government has agreed and the British Prime Minister has agreed that we are not going back to a hard border”, he said.
“We would urge you to reflect and reconsider on the overwhelming case to act on these two specific issues as this is the final opportunity to put vital guarantees and protections into legislation”, the letter says.
Some commentators the plan would require a formal change to the EU Treaty, which all member states would have to agree on.
