Amarinder Singh wins with highest margin
“All ministers will be decided by the party leadership”, he said.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal-led AAP has started ground work in many other states, like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Chhatisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. BJP was leading in three seats, as per trends available.
Aam Admi Party who was defeated by both the BJP and the Congress even failed to win a single seat in Goa.
Unlike the claims made by AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, Aam Aadmi Party is far from meeting its own expectations in assembly elections. The excepted CM and Deputy CM, Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu respectively have also won from their constituencies. It had expected to cash in on youth vote and Dalits, but Punjab seemed to vote in favour of tried and tested Congress.
“This is a mandate for stability and progress as well as good governance”, Capt Amarinder said in his first media interaction after victory, listing education and health as two areas of immediate concern for his Government.
The seat was earlier held by cabinet minister Madan Mohan Mittal of the BJP. AAP cornered 23.8% vote share.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has won Thoubal Assembly seat defeating nearest BJP rival by over 10 thousand votes. Khaira polled 48,873 votes while Yuvraj got 40,671 votes. But it is a different scenario when we look at the vote percentage that the parties secured.
As in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, AAP’s support base across different regions of Punjab and various population groups remained uneven.
“It is the revival of the Congress; it is just the beginning”. Here, AAP emerged victorious from 18 seats and SAD in eight. He lost from Madrem constituency to Congress candidate Dayanand Sopte by over 7,000 votes. The election which had turned into a triangular contest at the beginning of campaigning with the entry of the Aam Aadmi Party in the state Assembly election saw the Congress emerging as the largest party receiving 38.5 percent vote share and winning almost two-third seats.
