Memphis officer fatally shot during traffic stop
Sean Bolton, 33, who had been with the Memphis Police Department (MPD) since October 2010, suffered multiple gunshot wounds in yesterday’s incident.
“The suspect responsible is still at large and officers are in they are attempting to locate him”, an official police statement said. Armstrong said they received a call to report the shooting from a citizen who used a police radio.
Officer Bolton was shot as he was conducting a traffic stop.
She says the investigation is ongoing and did not give further details. In July 2011, Officer Timothy Warren was shot and killed at the DoubleTree Hotel downtown.
“As a community we say so often as a theme – Do black lives matter?” He did not release the officer’s name because next of kin had not been notified.
Bolton was a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps who’d served on the Memphis force since 2010.
Police officers wearing protective vests descended on an apartment complex in southeast Memphis on Sunday, about three miles from the scene of the shooting.
“There are so many guns in the wrong hands, that’s the key”, Mayor Wharton said. “And this is just a reminder of how risky this job is”.
At a news conference, Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong got emotional when he talked about officers being killed in the line of duty. He studied political science at the University of Memphis. Brian is a member of the church.
During the church’s morning service, Mendoza asked worshippers to pray for the Bolton family.
“We’re talking about, from what we know, routine traffic stop…results in an officer losing his life”.
