Brock Osweiler’s Contract & Salary With Browns
The Browns signed Hogan to their practice squad past year after he was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs, who drafted him in the fifth round in 2016.
It’s unclear what will happen next to Osweiler, but he doesn’t seem long for Cleveland.
However, ESPN reports the Browns are not actually planning to install Osweiler as their quarterback and he is expected to be traded or released before the 2017 season kicks off. The Texans said yes.
His bad season made the Texans react quickly, and they even gave up a 2017 sixth-round pick and a 2018 second-round pick. The Browns wanted that 2018 second-round pick, and have the cap space to take on Osweiler, whether that means cutting him right away, trading him, or keeping him on the roster for a year.
The Browns would be willing to absorb a portion of Osweiler’s $16 million contract, as much as half, sources told the newspaper. He is set to make $16 million next season. If the Browns hope to trade Osweiler and dump part of his salary, they probably will have to give up a pick or two, too. Obviously, it was a pretty massive deal, due to the fact that this was essentially just the Browns taking on a big contract so the Texans could free up salary cap space. If the Browns offer #12 and #33, or #12 and #52, or #12 and a pair of 2018 2nd round picks, the Patriots will have to start to listen- and the Browns will be more inclined to offer. Griffin III has had many highlight plays in his career, however, has unfortunately also suffered many injuries that have held him back so far in the NFL. This was also a good trade for the Texans.
If John Elway truly does want Tony Romo, I do not see him losing out to the Texans two offseasons in a row.
The Chicago Bears, who signed the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback to a three-year $45 million deal Thursday, surely expect Glennon to perform better than Osweiler did last year.
