Ryan works to save GOP’s Obamacare repeal
And Heritage Action’s Needham warned that passage of the AHCA would alienate voters who thought Republicans were going to fix the health-care system.
For all the flaws in the Affordable Care Act, the law has changed the conversation about health care.
Ryan disagreed with the Fox News host’s assertion, arguing that the process was going as planned and that he was confident that conservative Senators, who have denounced the bill, will eventually come around.
“I would hope that if it doesn’t pass, they would make an overture”, Pelosi said.
The House plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act has already drawn heavy criticism from both conservatives and Democrats. It also allows young adults under the age of 26 to remain on their parent’s health insurance plans.
The legislation would also eliminate eligibility for ObamaCare’s Medicaid expansion as of 2020 as well as the higher federal matching rate included in the Affordable Care Act.
Democratic Rep. Cheri Bustos, who represents a district in IL that Trump won, will deliver the weekly Democratic address and she said it will be focused on people in her rural district who rely on Medicaid and Obamacare. “You shouldn’t have to be rich to be healthy”.
Doug Dean, interim CEO of Elliot Health System, said he had not had a chance to digest the proposal.
House Speaker Paul Ryan praised the bill as “a conservative wish list” and “monumental, exciting conservative reform”.
Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle said Friday that the new health care legislation put forward by Republican leaders in Congress is not something he could support without important changes.
Paul called for ObamaCare to be repealed before any work begins on a replacement, telling Henry that House Republicans “might as well just start over”. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) praised his Kentucky counterpart for his “principled” stance, but noted that Paul’s bill was unlikely to pass without cooperation from Democrats, who are not likely to vote for any sort of repeal, as Paul himself admitted.
“Repealing and replacing Obamacare with this plan offers the American people freedom, protection, and compassion”, McCarthy wrote in a Wednesday op-ed along with House budget chair Diane Black, R-Tenn.
And Democratic efforts are getting some assistance as disappointed Republicans continue to vocalize their opposition to the bill.
“It doesn’t get to the root of the problem, which is lowering health care costs”, said Greg Moore, state director of the Americans for Prosperity. Cotton clearly recognizes that the current version of health care out there right now is not sustainable. Under that law, she said Richland County residents would see higher premiums.
“As I have said before, I support making structural improvements to the Medicaid program, but we must provide stability and certainty for individuals and families in Medicaid expansion programs and real flexibility for states”, Sen. “The only people that are better off as a result of this are people who are relatively wealthy. It’s a way to basically take from the poor and give to the rich”.
