Selfies, six packs to derail Arsenal’s title hopes: Keane
Arsenal players may lack the mentality required to win the Premier League this season due to their culture of celebratory selfies, Manchester United legend Roy Keane is quoted in The Sunday.
The former Red Devils captain, who played his part in making the Arsenal-United rivalry one of the biggest grudge matches in the modern era, believes this current squad is more interested in glamour than in winning the Premier League title.
Quite. We blame their manager…
“Every year we hear the same thing about Arsenal being contenders”.
“United will be better and they will need to be stronger out of the blocks, but if I was a betting man I’d still go with Chelsea”, Keane said.
“The bottom line is that if Chelsea’s players show the same hunger and desire that they did last year then they’ll win the league”.
The Irishman, whose United career ended in disrepute, has not held back with his criticism of Louis van Gaal’s summer spending spree.
“Look at all the players they have bought – I’m not sure that many would get into the Chelsea team”.
It seems like Keane still has a bit of a problem with the Gunners ten years later, this time with the players’ affinity for taking shirtless selfies.
“United have gone away from what they were about”.
I know it takes a lot of hard work and a lot of luck to get there but I still get that buzz from watching really good games of football.
Last season, under Jose Mourinho, Chelsea – built around a strong spine of hard-working, physical players – stifled their closest rivals to canter to the league title and Keane said the Stamford Bridge side remained the benchmark in the upcoming season. He doesn’t expect them to challenge for the title while also listing Chelsea as the favourites for the title. I think they’re after the boy [John] Stones, and if they add him, they’ll be stronger.’.
