March Madness 2017: Download your printable NCAA tournament bracket here
Once Selection Sunday gets us started, things are going to move pretty quickly. Lunardi pegs Syracuse as a 12-seed and facing the USC Trojans, while Dobbertean also has Syracuse as a 12-seed, but facing the Rhode Island Rams. And which teams will have to settle for the NIT? The public is invited to Alico Arena on Sunday for a Selection Show Viewing Party.
One year in my young days in the business world, I was invited to attend a “draft” with a “syndicate” to “purchase” teams that we would follow throughout March Madness.
Will we ever see a flawless NCAA Tournament bracket? When the selection gives the nod to the power conference schools with very bad conference records over the little guy who had a great season but lost in their conference tournament – it eliminates the unknown. That’s where most of the drama should unfold on Sunday.
American- two teams in, one capable of getting at-large with semifinal win (Houston), and five bid thieves alive in the quarterfinals. The RPI is so low (86 on the NCAA site today), and most teams with a RPI that low don’t have 6 Top 50 wins.
Some have been touting Gonzaga to take a No. 1 seed this season.
Here’s what you need to know in college hoops for Sunday, March 12. As a result, I now have Kansas State in the field, and Illinois State dropping out. That event will take place in The Zone at Williams-Brice Stadium, with doors opening at 5:00 p.m. Dawn Staley and selected student-athletes will meet with the media following the team’s selection.
The last couple of title games probably won’t mean much for the committee: MI plays Wisconsin for the Big Ten title at 2 PM CT, and Cincinnati plays SMU for the American title at 2:15. Meanwhile, the Rams have a chance to get an auto bid by winning the Atlantic 10 championship against VCU.
The Razorbacks are well into the field, so knocking off Vanderbilt helps Syracuse. We’ve watched the games for months – scouting that Final Four dark horse or the blueblood ripe for a Round of 64 upset – for this moment. Some are similar to lots of prior teams; others are more unique. I’m not so sure, especially because the Orange didn’t do much damage away from the Carrier Dome this season. They’ve been members of Division I for 22 seasons, and this is only their second 20-win season in that time.
It no longer looks like the ACC is going to emerge from its first conference tournament in NY and match the record for NCAA Tournament bids.
Wagner, who built Michigan’s big first-half lead by making his first six shots and finished with 17 points, wasn’t at all surprised by Walton’s dominance. At 19-15, Jamie Dixon’s squad likely needed the win over the Cyclones.
California (21-12) gave Syracuse fans quite a scare as the Golden Bears almost solidified its resume with a marquee win over No. 5 OR last night in the PAC-12 Semifinals. The Irish were the national preseason No. 1 team before losing early on. Now all eyes will turn to sixth-year coach Rob Murphy, who still has two years left on his deal, but hasn’t made an NCAA Tournament. I think this group is fine with wherever they seed us and wherever they send us.
