6 potential landing spots for Brock Osweiler
The quarterback or the pick?
The Browns are expected to try to trade for New England Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, but the Patriots plan to keep him.
Griffin was due to make more than $6 million in the 2017 season. 1 and 12, and two second-rounders this year, and three second-round picks in 2018. The pick next year will likely be somewhere in that neighborhood.
In exchange, the Browns gave up their fourth-round compensatory pick in this year’s draft (No. 142 overall) and took Osweiler’s guaranteed contract off the Texans’ books. The Texans said yes.
It’s no secret that Bill O’Brien and Brock Osweiler didn’t see eye to eye a few times during the quarterback’s tenure with the Houston Texans.
-Chandler Jones signed a five-year contract worth $83 million with the Arizona Cardinals, a long-term pact that removes the franchise tag assigned Jones on February 27.
Source tells me Robert Griffin III is getting released. In total, they save $10 million in salary-cap space and $16 million in cash this season.
Days after suffering the ignominy of being the first National Football League player moved in an NBA- or MLB-like salary dump, Brock Osweiler emerged and claimed he has no idea where he stands with the Cleveland Browns.
But I knew that the only way that Brock would be traded is if draft picks are attached with him. The 2018 second round pick might be mitigated by A.J. Bouye signing with the Jaguars. “I love AJ, but hopefully he’s the one guarding me on third down to win the game next year for those guys”. Of course RG3 is interested in playing for the Jets, he’s not going to have too many suitors and the Jets offer him the best opportunity to play on Sundays.
Griffin signed with the Browns last March hoping to revive his career after being waived by the Washington Redskins.
The Browns have plenty of ammunition to finally get their messy quarterback situation cleaned up.
So, which of these two newly acquired pieces do you think the Browns were more excited about?
That’s nine picks in the Top 65 in the next two drafts.
Still, Osweiler has some talent, but has he already peaked in the NFL? He completed 59 percent of his passes. In a game that meant nothing, Osweiler, whom the Texans had given a four-year deal after a taste of success with Denver, balked at having to play. Of the quarterback cavalcade that started last year, only second-year man Cody Kessler should return.
