Liverpool battle to 2-1 win over Burnley
Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has praised midfielder Emre Can’s resilience for playing through calf problems throughout the season after the German scored the victor in the Premier League victory over Burnley on Sunday.
The visitors broke the deadlock after six minutes as Mathew Lowton’s fine cross was turned home by Ashley Barnes at the far post.
Divock Origi, starting in the place of the injured Roberto Firmino, sent a hopeful ball into the area where Georginio Wijnaldum was able to turn home as the ball bobbled kindly off Ben Mee in his direction.
The top three all have a game in hand over the Reds, who now lead fifth-placed Arsenal by five points albeit having played two games more than Arsene Wenger’s side. Adobe have made a decision to close down the LiveFyre comments system from 9 March 2017.
“I think he started the game a little bit slowly”.
“We don’t play checkers”, he said, motioning as if he were moving pieces on a board.
“The result is massive for us – it’s the first ugly game we have won”, a delighted Klopp told Sky Sports. “But second half we did better and he did better – nice goal after a long period with calf problems, well deserved”.
If, heaven forbid, Liverpool are losing at some point today, where are the game-changers from the bench?
Liverpool’s inability to come away with a victory against lower ranked teams on the Premier League table was looking like it was set to continue, but they snatched an equaliser just before half-time. “We did it before against the bigger teams and we will try to do it again”. They have picked up just two points on the road all season, scoring a pitiful eight goals. But the Reds boss insisted that even without him, he doesn’t need to revert to a Plan B – despite getting strong criticism that his teams don’t know how to change their style when things aren’t going right with their usual tactical approach.
A well-taken finish on the stroke of half time pulled the hosts level and extended his current streak to four goals in six previous outings on home soil. It was the last kick of the half and Liverpool’s first shot on target of any description.
