Conway Brushes Off McCain Demand to Prove Wiretap Claim or Retract
Kellyanne Conway clarified Monday that her recent comments about surveillance did not mean to suggest Trump Tower was monitored in “any number of ways”. “I don’t believe people are using their microwave to spy on the Trump campaign”.
“I don’t expect to see any evidence”, Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, told ABC’s “This Week”.
Conway later appeared on CNN, telling Chris Cuomo, “I’m not Inspector Gadget”, she said, referring to the animated 1980’s TV show.
After she tried to pivot to Obamacare and her hosts reminded her that the issue of wiretapping was raised by President Trump, Conway responded that “it’s under investigation”.
“I was answering a question about surveillance techniques generally“, she said in response to her answer.
The House Intelligence Committee set a March 13 deadline for the Department of Justice to provide any evidence that Trump Tower was wiretapped. McCain’s fellow senators Lindsey Graham R-S.C. and Sheldon Whitehouse D-R.I. have formally requested information from Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey and acting deputy attorney general Dana Boente.
“She is part of something here that might be a serious strain of this presidency that could end unfortunately hurting our republic if Washington doesn’t do its job”, Brzezinski said.
A spokesman of Obama denied that the former president or any White House official ordered surveillance. “Or perhaps, more disturbing, the president really believes this”, Mr. Schiff said.
Of course, if Trump’s claims were true, it would certainly be a new low-but with no evidence to back up this accusation, Trump is actually the one in the wrong. And in the unlikely event that there is evidence of a judge-approved FISA warrant to tap Trump and/or Trump Tower, that would draw even more attention and lend credence to the concerns that Trump officials had ties to Russian Federation during the campaign.
Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway seems to create controversy every time she sits down with the media.
On Saturday 4 March President Trump accused his predecessor, President Barack Obama, of “wiretapping” Trump Tower during the 2016 election. “To be honest, George, I don’t know whether we’ll be able to conduct this to its completion, whether we’ll have the kind of bipartisan cooperation that we need”, Schiff told Stephanopoulos.
“So far, I don’t think the American people have gotten all the answers”, McCain said.
