Winter storm causing flight delays, cancellations across US
American Airlines has already canceled all flights at Logan after 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Southwest is expected to hold all flights in the Northeast on Tuesday, and more airlines could take Southwest’s lead as potential blizzard conditions hit New York City.
“We’re expecting Tuesday traffic to be extremely light if existent at all”, Flannery tells us. For travelers headed to or leaving Chicago, flights can be rebooked between now and Wednesday.
Baltimore/Washington International Airport has seen the greatest impact, with 218 departing flights and 212 incoming flights being canceled as of Monday. But the impending storm had more fliers coming through today. American Airlines is the largest carrier at the airport, accounting for approximately 73 percent of traffic. But, airlines are already waiving change fees, so passengers can get a jump start on revising their travel plans.
On Tuesday, the 8:25 am flight to Philadelphia is cancelled because of the weather. They are hoping to prevent stranded fliers and rebooking nightmares later in the week. “But better that than what could’ve been”, said Watts.
“I chose to move my flight to this morning just to be safe”, said Friedman.
Some airlines are relaxing ticket change rules due the potential storm, according to officials at BWI-Marshall Airport.
“It is probably going to grow”, said Troy Bell, the airport’s spokesman.
“We are fully prepared for the upcoming storm”, Dynia said.
A late-season winter storm is expected to move through the Mid-Atlantic and up to New England through Tuesday.
