Arsenal superstar insists his future isn’t dependant on Arsene Wenger
Lincoln’s dreams of a fight back were dashed when Luke Waterfall scored an own goal, turning in Kieran Gibbs’ cross.
Wenger did not deny telling German media this week he will make a decision in “March or April” but pressed on when exactly he said: “If I said “March or April” it is because I didn’t know”. They have never won it, they have played maybe 10 games in the whole history of the club.
“It was hard”, Wenger said.
“It was hard; they knocked Ipswich, Brighton and Burnley out”.
As Arsenal’s players signed the shirts of Lincoln’s FA Cup heroes in the Emirates dressing rooms, Wenger repeatedly brought up the game against Bayern and how they were “outstanding” and claimed the referee “killed” the game.
“We were a bit nervous because the confidence drops when you don’t have good results”, Wenger said.
It looked as though Lincoln would reach the interval on level terms but Arsenal broke through when Giroud, nearly invisible in the first half, laid the ball back for Walcott whose shot deflected past Paul Farman.
Even if they evolve now, many will point to the fact the most intense pressure point of the season has already passed but then again they face a real fight to finish in the top four given the sustained challenges posed by Liverpool and Manchester United. That loss was followed up by another humiliating defeat to Bayern in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 matchup.
“Look, I would love to but at the moment we are far from that”.
Arsene Wenger, 67, time as Gunners manager could be coming to an end.
Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has made a statement regarding his immediate future at the London club.
Lincoln’s likeable, hugely talkative manager Danny Cowley was left to rue Petr Cech’s fine save from Nathan Arnold in the first half (“that goes in in the National League”) but was visibly moved by his team’s achievement in playing at this late stage of the competition. “We respect that fans are entitled to their different individual opinions but we will always run this great football club with its best long-term interests at heart”.
So folks, is one game enough to change your stand on how the club should act at the end of the season?
Keswick’s comment could be viewed in two ways. 1. I knew it was very important to win and I wanted to give the team the chance to get their confidence back by winning the next game.
