Any bid to impede CPEC will be thwarted: COAS
United States Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Dan Feldman on Saturday extolled chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif over his efforts in bringing together all parties to stage peace talks between the Afghan government and the Afghan Taliban. He congratulated the PLA on the occasion and termed relations between Pakistan and China as an all weather friendship which would grow further in the times ahead. He said that any conspiracy against China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will be crushed completely, reported Dunya News.
The CoAS said the holistic concept of CPEC speaks volumes about the historic project.
General Raheel said that he has personally visited different areas of Balcohistan and is satisfied over the pace of construction work at CPEC.
The Army Chief said that Pak-China cooperation for regional stability would squeeze space for anti-state and non-state actors for stable Afghanistan. The Army Chief pointed out that the elimination of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) – an extremist group which largely operates in the border Xinjiang region – was a manifestation of their resolve.
General Raheel Sharif said that rapid progress is underway for completion of CPEC. “We will defeat nefarious designs of forces detrimental to us”. Pakistan’s foreign office in a statement at the end of the night-long deliberations said participants recognised the need to undertake confidence-building measures in order to engender trust among all stakeholders.
He stated that People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is one of the best armies in the world.
The Chinese have been seriously following the security situation in the province.
