Heptulla on Monday said she has asked Ibobi Singh to resign so that the process of forming a new government could start, but stated she has not invited any party to form government as yet.
NPP, NPF and LPJ had fought the elections separtely.
After her electoral drubbing which she suffered against three-time chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh, Sharmila was upset and depressed with the results. His confidence perhaps stemmed from the fact that he has “provided jobs” to nearly every family in the constituency during his tenure.
While ordering floor test, the bench noted the submissions of Goa CLP leader’s counsel and senior advocate Abhishek Mani Singhvi who assailed the Governor’s determination to invite Parrikar to form the government by “seriously disputing” the factual position and terming it as a “misrepresentation of fact”. Her decision to take a new route caused her to lose the support of an important and influential demographic group.
The iconic rights activist told reporters that she wants to “quit politics”.
Meanwhile, politicians and celebrities of Kerala have expressed their joy by welcoming Irom Sharmila to God’s own country.
“We are waiting for the final two letters. Though I have been defeated, I’ll continue to fight against the draconian Act”, she added.
At the same time, she maintained, there were still two years to go during which a lot could happen.
The BJP also made big gains in the northeastern state of Manipur, which shares a border with Myanmar and has always been plagued by separatist unrest. He has resigned as the defence minister, a position he has held since November 2014.
In a tweet, Modi said he was overjoyed by the “unprecedented support from all sections of society” and congratulated party workers. Even the NOTA option got 143 votes signaling the near non-existence of Sharmila as a political force in Manipur.
