Seattle Seahawks to meet with RB Jamaal Charles
Running back Eddie Lacy is leaving Green Bay after four seasons with the Packers for a free-agent contract with the Seattle Seahawks. He has a career 3,435 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns with the Green and Gold. For his first free-agent visit, Peterson was expected to arrive in Seattle on Sunday and continue talking with the Seahawks on Monday.
A source told Schefter that the deal is worth $5.55 million, with $3 million fully guaranteed.
The Ravens recently agreed on a deal with Danny Woodhead (three years, $8.8 million) at running back, and the market seems to be shaping up to favor buyers not sellers.
The Seahawks may not be done upgrading their backfield after signing Eddie Lacy. The two players have 11 Pro-Bowl distinctions, seven First-Team All-Pro selections, and three National Football League rushing touchdowns leader citations in between them.
Lacy’s agency tweeted the news Tuesday morning.
That the Seahawks signed Lacy for just one-year mitigates the overall commitment. Thomas Rawls looked like the answer as a rookie in 2015 with 830 rushing yards and 5.6 yards per carry but was limited to nine games last season. He began his career with consecutive 1,000-yard seasons but played in only five games last season because of a foot injury.
Lacy spent the last four seasons with Green Bay. Lacy began his free-agency tour in Seattle on Friday before flying Saturday night to Minnesota.
That said, they’ll probably need to sign a veteran running back at some point with Jerick McKinnon now the only one on the roster of significance.
