Cuomo: 1 million New Yorkers would lose coverage under GOP health plan
Obama’s signature health insurance reform bill was the crowning domestic achievement of his presidency.
The president has thrown his full weight behind a contested plan by House Republicans to replace Obamacare, battling to overcome resistance from the party’s right wing in hopes of meeting a key campaign pledge.
The Republican bill would undo much of Obama’s expansion of insurance coverage, especially for low-income people.
The AHCA is already drawing fire from ultra-conservatives, moderates, and health-care industry groups; a new report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a liberal think tank, highlights another constituency that might have reason to dislike the plan: people living in high-cost health insurance states.
“Most importantly, we get Washington out of the business of being a nanny state”, he said. This isn’t a law that can be saved.
PAUL RYAN: I’m not that concerned about it because we said we were going to repeal all of the Obamacare taxes and this was one of the Obamacare taxes. “We’re getting rid of those things that people said that they don’t want”, said Chaffetz on CNN. So we’re keeping our promises. So it’s a tax on wealthy investors.
A proposed replacement to the Affordable Care Act that will do away with both employer and individual mandates was released on Monday by House Republicans. This bill does not do that.
Yet this week, Mr Ryan found himself the subject of no small mockery and derision for his presentation on the Republicans’ plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare.
The American Health Care Act offers a better way.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), one of the most outspoken critics of the bill, told “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday that the proposal is “in all likelihood unconstitutional”.
While some conservative lawmakers say they will oppose the leadership-backed bill, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), chairman of the Freedom Caucus, said his group has not yet taken a formal position.
While Obamacare is not ideal, it provides good, affordable healthcare for nearly 30 million Americans.
“This is the closest we will ever get to repealing and replacing Obamacare”. The expansion has led to coverage for more than 11 million Americans that would otherwise not have insurance.
Instead of giving individuals subsidies to help purchase insurance, people will receive tax credits based in part on the buyer’s age. “For these reasons, the AMA can not support the AHCA as it is now written”. This plan goes in the opposite direction, increasing insurance premiums for older Americans and not doing anything to lower drug costs.
