Congress’ Ibobi resigns; Biren Singh BJP’s CM candidate for Manipur
The Governor informed that she was approached by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders along with its supporters to stake claim to form the government.
“There was a speculation for last two days whether BJP really got the majority required to form the government and here we are, we have 22 legislators with us”, he said.
There are reports that BJP president Amit Shah and Union Minister Jitendra Singh will attend the ceremony.
On March 13, Biren was elected the BJP’s legislature party chief after a close fight with Th.
Outgoing Chief Minister Ibobi Singh was also present.
Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said, the formation of government in Goa and Manipur was a threat to democracy.
Yumnan Joykumar Singh of the National People’s Party (NPP) was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister.
The BJP has claimed the support of 32 MLAs in the 60-member Assembly. The party then merged with the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in 2004. A delegation of BJP and parties supporting it called on the Governor.
Biren Singh said he left the Congress Party because of misgovernance.
The BJP runs a coalition government in Assam and has its own government in Arunachal Pradesh, crafted through defections.
The BJP on Monday named Biren Singh as its chief ministerial candidate after the Governor said she was “satisfied” with the party’s numbers.
Yesterday, Vishwajit Rane said that the party may have 17 seats in Goa, but it could not form the government because of the “slow decision making process” within the party. Biren has been representing the constituency since 2002.
For the BJP legislature party in Manipur, the one-third is seven, a simple math that can quickly disentangle like quicksand.
