How Defunding Planned Parenthood Would Put More Women In Poverty
Brooklynites lined 13th Avenue in front of Rep. Dan Donovan’s Dyker Heights office on March 8 demanding the pol protect Planned Parenthood’s funding after House Republicans unveiled a bill that seeks to effectively defund the reproductive health care provider.
It’s been eight months since Texas paid a conservative, anti-abortion organization to help connect low-income women to health care providers – and there’s little to show for it. Part of the AHCA includes removing Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid support, which would deprive the organization of approximately $178 million in funding by the end of this year alone.
No. It’s not. Nothing about Planned Parenthood looks like “decency”.
The Boston Globe reported the five Planned Parenthood clinics in MA would lose a total of $2 million a year, less than 10 percent of their annual budgets.

Planned Parenthood has always been under attack by the GOP, and the plan to yank federal funding from their clinics across the U.S.is a cherished part of Trump’s healthcare bill. “Thus, it should not be included in the Senate budget reconciliation bill”.
If it succeeds, the impact would be particularly strong in California, a state where legislators over the years have interpreted federal laws and rules in ways that have allowed more federal dollars to flow to Planned Parenthood clinics. Overall, that would lead to an estimated $77 million in additional Medicaid spending over the next decade. However, the Trump administration could modify or soften the essential benefits regulation on its own. Instead PP promotes chemical contraceptives which alter women’s natural fertility and contribute to increased cancers, as many medical studies prove. This means that people without access to other clinics would have their reproductive health services cut off, leading to “several thousand” more unplanned births each year to low-income women.
“And I guess now being in the band that we’re in, having a huge gay following, and I think you know, just trying to check my privilege as a white, cis, straight woman is pretty important and just remembering that I have it pretty f***ing good”, Mayberry said. Before the ACA, coverage of birth control was inconsistent from plan to plan and women were required to pay co-pays.
Texas lost 82 family planning clinics by 2014, a third of them Planned Parenthoods, and learned the hard way that once you dismantle your reproductive health infrastructure, it is very difficult to put things back together. Abortions only make up a small percentage of the services that are offered and performed at Planned Parenthood each year.
Meanwhile, its remaining 33 surgical abortion sites – which don’t get federal funding – would remain open, said Kathy Kneer, president and CEO of California Planned Parenthood.
“These kinds of estimates are going to cause revisions in the bill, nearly certainly”, Sen. The Washington Post (August 2015) even debunked the statistic and gave the claim three Pinocchios. It isn’t what voters in Pennsylvania want and we’re fighting to make sure that these attacks do not succeed. Roughly $1 billion of the county’s $6.1 billion budget is federal money “in some way tied to health care services”, said County Counsel James Williams.
