‘The Flash’ Heads Into The Speed Force On This Week’s Geeky TV
In a true demonstration of badassery, Jesse Quick went after Savitar herself in “Into The Speed Force”, and while Barry was busy having yet another existential crisis, Jesse managed to strike a blow at their enemy – learning a crucial clue in the process.
“The Flash” star Candice Patton made it clear that her character, Iris, still loves Barry (Grant Gustin) despite calling off their engagement in Season 3, episode 15. They couldn’t stop him, so the Speed Force used their history to teach Barry what he needed to do in order to fix it. “He thinks it’s what he deserves, to spend the rest of eternity in the Speed Force”. On a certain level, however, Barry’s consistently poor decision-making is even worse than the wanton acts of violence and destruction committed by Superman and Batman in Zack Snyder’s DC movies. Eventually, he turns to the Speed Force for answers while H.
Only one man could do that, and his journey through the Speed Force would see the delivery of that message alone, with the help of some familiar and welcome old faces. Now Barry is going looking for him. It appears that this time around, Barry will not be welcome inside this mighty force. The way this show handled Henry Allen’s death a year ago was almost inexcusable, despite the big apology we got at the end with Mr. Shipp putting the helmet on.
Barry’s second visitation is in S.T.A.R. Labs, where he sees Caitlin Snow (DANIELLE PANABAKER) singing a lullaby to a baby. “So it’s a pretty different Speed Force experience than previous year”. The action isn’t forgotten either, as Barry has a fantastic fight with the deceased Hunter Zolomon, known in this form as the Black Flash. Even Iris and Barry’s break up felt rushed and a little anticlimactic in the grand scheme of things. The team figures out that they can use the piece of Savitar’s armor that was embedded in Barry’s shoulder to track Savitar’s location. He tries to talk her out of it, but Jesse is intent on stopping the villain who trapped her boyfriend in the speed force. And it’s Jesse who discovers that Savitar has a weakness.
Savitar earlier told The Flash about the prophecies.
On a couple of last notes, a big development is Jesse leaving Earth-1 to take Jay’s place on Earth-3.
Before this revelation, we assumed that Savitar could predict Team Flash’s decisions because he came from the future – but his statement that he “lived it” has far more personal implications. The only person there, aside from Wally, is him. He will also meet Leonard Snart (Wentworth Miller) there. He tells him that Wally is in a hell all his own that’s not for Barry, but Barry insists that he isn’t leaving without Wally. After Flash realized that everything in Savitar’s plan was about Wally, he came to Kid Flash’s aid. Instead of embracing and committing their love to each other, Barry pushed her away. Barry says he hasn’t been much of a hero lately and “Snart” mocks him for giving up. Not to mention John Wesley Shipp’s Jay Garrick busting in to save the day.
The episode opened with a really cool shot of everyone frozen in the cortex with the camera sweeping past them and a voiceover by Barry. It was fun seeing so many speedsters in the episode, but Jay’s inclusion at the end was one of the best moments because of the meaning behind it. Jay’s belief in Barry is very enjoyable because it feels like he knows Barry will become a great hero, but Jay helps Barry get there by being a role model who makes the necessary sacrifices for the betterment of the future. The Speed Force tried its best, but never broke his resolve to save Wally. “There’s a lot going on right now that is literally life-or-death, and I think that is clouding everything and getting in the way of their relationship”. Barry and Wally are then able to use Jay’s helmet as a tether so Cisco can pull them out of the speed force.
Feeling responsible for Wally’s imprisonment in the Speed Force, Barry decides to run in after him. But nothing ever comes easy.
