Missing father of golfer Billy Hurley found safe in Texas
Lt. Jeffrey Dube, a Leesburg police spokesman, confirmed that Hurley’s mother filed a missing-persons report on Monday, and police are investigating.
“My dad took some clothes and he took some cash, he got in his truck and he drove away”, said Hurley, of Annapolis.
After a tearful press conference early in the week, many feared the worst for Billy Hurley and his father, as the elder Hurley went missing nearly two weeks ago.
He didn’t explain why he left his home without informing his family; he also didn’t say why he was in Texas or whether he plans to come home, police said.
Willard Hurley, 61, lives in Leesburg, Virginia, where the younger Hurley grew up.
Hurley told police that he was physically fine and simply traveling. We will see if he makes any announcement Friday.
According to an employee at the Red River Public Library in Clarksville, TX, Hurley was there around 1:20 p.m. Thursday and used a computer there to look up PGA tour information online.
Despite the family crisis, the 33-year-old was hoping his refusal to withdraw from the tournament would help deliver his desperate message – a message from a loving son to his father.
Hurley had last been tracked to a hotel in Ashdown, AR on July 23. The photo of Hurley’s father was widely disseminated, getting hundreds of thousands of views on social media. “Mr. Hurley did not wish to reveal the reasons behind his departure”. He worked as a police officer for 25 years, his son said. Speaking to The Norris & Davis Show, prior to learning of his father’s disappearance, he said “It’s one of the premier events on tour, and it’s the top…as far as honoring and taking care of our military”.
