Trump’s Supreme Court Nominee Would Be a Disaster for Women’s Rights
Every one of Gorsuch’s former clerks – except for two now clerking at the Supreme Court – recently signed a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee vouching for their old boss.
The Chevron case stems from the Reagan administration. “The Committee should interrogate Judge Gorsuch on his position in this area, as his views on “religious complicity” go well beyond anything that now exists in American jurisprudence”.
He’s backing President Donald Trump’s pick – Coloradan Neil Gorsuch. Gorsuch said he also “drafted speeches on terrorism and national security efforts for the Attorney General” and helped draft the motion to dismiss the first set of suits by detainees authorized by a Supreme Court decision.
According to the Times, Gorsuch represented Anschutz and his companies in private practice, Anshutz later lobbied to get Gorsuch onto the federal appeals court and for almost a dozen years Gorsuch has been partners with Anshutz’s top advisers in a limited-liability company.
“Judge Gorsuch may act like a neutral, calm judge but his record and his career clearly show he harbors a right-wing, pro-corporate, special interest agenda”, the NY senator said. As a Republican, I am ashamed that my party willing stands behind a man who so vehemently opposes fundamental American values such as freedom of the press, transparency and freedom of thought. Of course, this isn’t how anyone thought things would play out exactly one year ago, when President Obama nominated Merrick Garland to fill the Supreme Court seat left vacant by the late Antonin Scalia.
Gorsuch critics also point to his majority opinion for the 10th Circuit in a case known as Burwell v. Hobby Lobby. Though his supervisor told him not to leave the trailer, Maddin unhitched it and drove away to seek shelter.
He said such communication may have been in violation of federal law requiring preservation of presidential records.
“He enacted [that agenda] time and time again on the 10th Circuit”. He wrote separately, however, to say that making a political contribution was a “fundamental” right deserving the highest level of constitutional protection, known as “strict scrutiny review”.
To Goldberg, the case shows Gorsuch was “willing to ignore court practice and custom” in an ideologically driven dispute to “defend an otherwise illegal act”.
Like Gorsuch, Garland appeared to be the flawless Supreme Court candidate.
“When it comes to a president like President Trump”, there is “a very big difference between the kind of authority that administrative agencies exercise, which is in essence delegated from Congress, and the kind of authority that the president exercises, which is executive power itself”, Mincberg says.
“The specifics of Judge Gorsuch’s advice and role in these matters, as well as his views now, should be probed further”, wrote Just Security founding editor Jennifer Daskal on Thursday. Her mother, Grace, was sacked from her job as an assistant professor at Kansas State University when she did not return to work after a six-month leave in which she underwent cancer treatment.
Gorsuch broke ranks with colleagues who ruled that the Republican governor had overstepped his authority.
Republicans and groups critical of campaign regulation generally have supported the Gorsuch nomination.
