Hacked? McDonald’s calls Trump ‘disgusting excuse of a President’ in deleted tweet

McDonald’s has apologised after a hacker sent a message calling Donald Trump “a disgusting excuse of a President” from its Twitter account.

McDonald’s later tweeted that its account had been “compromised” and that it was investigating the matter.

The tweet, sent Thursday morning, was pinned to the top of the account before it was pulled from its feed. In those cases, the hacks were a harmless message letting the user know that the accounts had been compromised.

When Trump won the Republican primary on June 7, 2016, he celebrated his victory by posting a photo of himself on his private plane eating a McDonald’s Big Mac and fries.

McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook has previously spoken favorably about Trump’s presidency, specifically about his proposal to reduce business regulations.

The account has now returned to its usual service of responding cheerfully to questions and comments. Was it an employee tweeting from the wrong account?

It was certainly a quick escalation from McDonald’s previous tweets.

McDonald’s has issued a statement acknowledging the hack and has apologized for the incident.
