The answer for affordable health care
A Kaiser Health Tracking Poll found that almost half of the public (48%) believes the American Health Care Act (AHCA), introduced by House Republicans, will result in fewer people having coverage than the Affordable Care Act (ACA), compared with 18% who say more will get coverage. Some elected officials are so wedded to free enterprise that the only way to gauge federal health care programs is to determine their success in ending Medicaid and Medicare.
ACA premium tax credits for individuals would be increased for young adults and decreased for older adults for years 2018-2019, and such credits could be applied to purchase coverage in qualified health plans sold outside of an exchange or plans that provide only catastrophic coverage.
“After years of finger pointing and grandstanding, they’ve revealed half-baked legislation – negotiated behind closed doors – that rips health care away from hardworking families, breaks the promises they’ve already made”, Kelly said.
Oklahoma has one of the highest uninsured rates in the nation, with about 14 percent of residents with no coverage, compared to the national rate of about 9 percent. John Thune of South Dakota, a member of the Republican leadership, asked for steps to make the bill “more helpful to people on the lower end”. The result is an insurance umbrella that added almost 12 million people to the ranks of “covered”, and Medicaid now covers 1 out of every 5 Americans. The expansion of health coverage directly translated into reduced morbidity and mortality for Americans. But it will certainly cut coverage for millions of Americans, sending them back to the emergency rooms for their care.
BUDGET RECONCILIATION: Legislative process that allows measures to pass with a simple majority in Congress. Budget reconciliation bills can’t be filibustered but must focus on provisions that have a budgetary impact. Ana Gupte, analyst at Leerink Partners, told the NY Times, “The Street is reacting to the uncertainty around [the bill], and the possibility of more challenges ahead”.
Under Ryan’s plan, by 2026 Medicaid spending would be about 25% less than what the Congressional Budget Office projects under current law.
“Expanding Medicaid to uninsured populations comes with substantial benefits for the populations”, said Katherine Baicker, C. Boyden Gray professor of health economics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Previously, Sanders had cited a calculation from ThinkProgress, a left-leaning website, assuming that 29.8 million people would lose their insurance and that one person will die for every 830 people who lose insurance. Harold Pollack, a University of Chicago professor, estimates that the Affordable Care Act saves around 24,000 lives per year.
Last year, American doctors said they had created the world’s first baby using this method.
There are 3 phases to the American Health Care Act, and that is still being worked out as the Republican leadership tries to push something through both Houses that is not completed.
Sen. Bernie Sanders proposed to do this, and it was wildly popular on the campaign trail.
A report by the Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center (PBPC) details the deadly effects of wholly repealing the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) on workers and the poor in Pennsylvania. This new proposal is opposite.
On Mar. 14, an analysis conducted by Bloomberg found that counties that had backed Clinton during the 2016 election would receive annual tax cuts amounting to $21.9 billion while counties that had swung for Trump would only receive a windfall of $6.6 billion, based on data from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). America must reject it.
