Steve Kerr says LaVar Ball’s comments not helping his kids
First, UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball’s father, LaVar Ball, made his case that if he and Michael Jordan ever competed one-on-one that LaVar would run the floor with arguably the greatest basketball player of all time.
LaVar Ball also has two other sons who play basketball in high school and already have committed to play college basketball at UCLA. “. I know he don’t want to play one-on-one because he’s too big”.
This has become Ball’s world since his father, LaVar, proclaimed the talented freshman better than NBA MVP Steph Curry.
“Intentionally or not, he kept me laughing throughout the three-hour interview”. He then touted his own horn this week when he told Josh Peter of USA Today that in his prime he could have beaten Michael Jordan one-on-one. According to Lonzo, LaVar has been making bold claims and predictions for years now, so he’s used to his father being “outlandish” when he talks. I don’t think it’s helping his kids.
LiAngelo Ball, a senior at Chino Hills High School, is rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com – not almost the player his older brother is.
One of the possible teams for Lonzo Ball next season is the Philadelphia 76ers but John Smallwood of The Philadelphia Inquirer News believes the team should beware of LaVar Ball.
Barkley isn’t the only one who’s doubting Ball’s belief.
Ball is widely expected to be a top-2 pick in the draft and fall no lower than third. The company appears to be the clear favorite of the major brands. When the Balls eventually get around to signing endorsement deals, they’re going to make more money because all three of them are household names to the SportsCenter-watching public, courtesy of their dad.
Ball, who has been hyping his son, responded by declining, adding that Barkley really doesn’t want to play because “he’s too big”. That said, I can absolutely see a future in which a coach gets frustrated because LaVar is ripping them for not giving one of his sons enough playing time early in their careers.
