US Justice Documents Said To Provide No Evidence Of Spying On Trump

The US government has formally apologized to Britain after White House press secretary Sean Spicer accused United Kingdom intel agency GCHQ of wiretapping Donald Trump on behalf of President Obama.
Britain’s communications intelligence agency GCHQ has issued a statement denying it wiretapped Donald Trump during the U.S. presidential campaign.
But at a news conference Trump brushed aside a question about whether it was a mistake to accuse British intelligence of eavesdropping.
Mr Spicer said Mr Trump maintained his claims.
The British intelligence agency, which rarely comments on allegations about intelligence matters, flatly denied the claim, responding with a statement calling the allegations “nonsense”.
On Thursday, Schiff launched a new attack against Trump, accusing the president of revealing classified information about the Central Intelligence Agency during an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News.
Trump had claimed that his Trump Tower residence in NY was under surveillance authorised by former President Obama and allegations of Britain’s Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) involvement were initially made by former judge Andrew Napolitano.
“Look, they’re allowed to believe what they believe”, Cole said of the White House’s refusal to back down.
Trump, who became president in January, tweeted earlier this month that his Democratic predecessor had wiretapped him during the late stages of the 2016 campaign.
Trump has stood by his claims, despite lawmakers in both parties saying that they had yet to see evidence bolstering the accusations.

Leaders from the House and Senate Intelligence Committees asked the Justice Department for evidence after Trump called for a congressional inquiry into his as-yet-unproven wiretapping claims.
Spicer during a Thursday briefing cited a report by Fox News commentator Andrew Napolitano as evidence that the President’s residence were secretly recorded.
Dominic Grieve, chairman of the British Parliament’s Intelligence and Security Committee, said a U.S. president can not task the GCHQ to intercept an individual’s communications.
