Secret Service Laptop With Floor Plans of Trump Tower Stolen
ABC News reported the computer contains Trump Tower floor plans, details about Hillary Clinton’s email investigation and other national security information.
The Secret Service confirmed the theft but did not provide any details.
An agency-issued laptop belonging to a U.S. Secret Service employee has been stolen, the agency said in a statement released Friday.
Secret Service laptops, despite the encryption and other security features, are not authorized to contain classified information.
“It’s a very big deal”, a police source told the newspaper, which noted that the Secret Service – whose responsibilities include protecting President Donald Trump and his family – is heavily involved in the investigation.
The Secret Service has been beset with scandals in recent years involving prostitutes and the like, but I have always assumed that the agency’s core mission has not been compromised.
The items that were recovered were found at Polly Prep and were eventually returned to Argentieri.
The authorities, however, were unable to retrieve the computer or the agent’s access keycard, which was also stolen during the incident.
That’s according to two senior NY law enforcement officials.
Today, a Brooklyn-based Secret Service agent learned what those of us without security clearance have known for years: Don’t leave a laptop in you auto if you don’t want it to be stolen.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the NYPD and Secret Service New York field office. A police source told the Daily News that “there’s data on [the laptop] that’s highly sensitive”.
The president’s wife and youngest son are still living at Trump Tower until the end of the school year.
