I am under pressure at Manchester City – Guardiola
“When they want to attack they feel comfortable”.
“We’ve felt good in these games so far but for me City is the most hard team to play”.
“City might win the lot – but, after Monaco, Guardiola surely cannot completely silence the nagging voice which says that they could also lose the lot”. But he knows that I know better than him how it works, so when that results happen, always we’re going to take decisions. “You have to be a little bit more realistic”, Guardiola said yesterday. “Actually, I can’t remember a not-important game in the Premier League, to be honest”.
A dismal 3-1 defeat at Leicester City bridged impressive home wins over Tottenham and Arsenal and they laboured to a 2-1 home victory over Burnley in their most recent outing. “Second half, (City) missed chance after chance.” he said. While a year ago it was Real Madrid who beat them 1-0 on aggregate this time it was a side that despite their flair do not yet occupy a place at Europe’s top table.
“Of course, he makes mistakes but it’s part of the process”. We should have done better and deserve to be in the next round.
“I expect a reaction from the team”.
“We can’t play the way we did in the first 45 minutes [at Monaco], that’s why we are out”. Klopp is aware that “when we’ve beaten them, he was pretty much always involved” and deeply appreciates Firmino’s role in the team.
“We really have to compare the squads”, he told reporters on Friday.
“Qualification for the Champions League will be tough until the last game of the Premier League”, Guardiola said.
“It was two spectacular games”.
City is also leaking too many goals with Guardiola’s biggest gamble – signing former Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo and sending Joe Hart on loan to Italy – backfiring.
Right-back Bacary Sagna echoed the thoughts of Guardiola and centre-back John Stones by blaming City’s exit on an abject first-half showing.
Klopp explained that City “have all these players who can obviously fulfil all the plans you have” which he believes is both “fantastic and an outstanding combination”.
On balance, though, it’s proving to be a good season for head coach Jorge Sampaoli, who joined the club last summer.
“There is pressure and sometimes we are still not patient enough”.
“Everyone wants to be playing in the Champions League and that’s what we’re hoping to do next season, and hopefully we could do a good job there”.
“I have said many times I’m so happy working with the guys and how they try to do and their performances”.
“Jurgen Klopp will have studied Monaco’s approach to beating City and concluded that it was not so very far removed from his own preferred modus operandi – an approach which earned Liverpool a thumping win at City last season”. “I am not in doubt about his quality. I appreciate that a lot”.
‘I would say Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona squad was the ideal role model for a winning situation, ‘ he said.
