Ryan on healthcare plan: ‘We’re right where we want to be’
It will hurt us all. A Congressional Budget Office analysis of the plan estimated older, poorer consumers would suffer the most under it. If Chaffetz will cancel the cushy health insurance plan he is provided as a member of the House, I will write him a check for that amount – and wish him the best of luck providing health care for his family.
I guess putting health insurance out of reach for millions of sicker, older people could lower insurance costs for the rest of us for a while.
Insurance premiums increased yet again by an average of 25 to 50 percent this year in Montana. But more plans would drop toward that level.
According to the White House, about 1 in 5 customers of the Affordable Care Act are self-employed or entrepreneurs.
The proposed elimination of the individual mandate is more complicated.
President Donald Trump says he wants people to know he’s “100 percent behind” the House Republican health care bill.
Many of those governors agree with Kasich, who notes that 700,000 Ohioans have gained insurance coverage under Medicaid expansion. That amendment was offered by Republican Tom McClintock, now of Roseville, who used to represent Ventura County in the California Legislature before moving north.
“It provides nearly no new flexibility to the states, does not ensure the resources necessary to ensure no one is left out, and shifts significant costs to states”, the governors wrote in a letter sent to Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. Neither of these is true. “It does not make any extra sense to put any extra burdens on them at that point in their life”. The evaluation by the Congressional Budget Office is making it harder for all but the staunchest conservative and libertarian ideologues to maintain this defense strategy. We don’t need more top-down, one-size-fits-all mandates from the federal government, we need the freedom to innovate locally.
A former senior advisor to Bush-era Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said, “Considering Republicans’ angst with this bill that includes cuts to Medicaid, problems with Medicare, and the millions of people who will become uninsured, it’s beginning to feel like Thursday’s vote will just be an exercise in futility”. Lara views the health care fight as one piece of a broader play to turn back the Trump agenda – first with grassroots resistance, then by actively shaping more attractive and inclusive policy. It’s also immoral, violating the most basic obligation of Christianity, described in the New Testament as caring for “the least of these brothers and sisters”. Allowing this notion of “choice” to dominate conversations around health care is not in our best national interests.
As we look to replace Obamacare, it is important to remember that further propping up the health care middle men will only ensure that costs continue to rise.
The federal government pays a share of each state’s cost of providing care for beneficiaries. Obamacare, officially known as the Affordable Care Act, already ensures such protection. If you think these ACA-focused town halls are hostile, just you wait. Granted, the GOP promised to repeal Obamacare.
The Senate March 13 confirmed Seema Verma, a close associate of Pence who helped overhaul Indiana’s Medicaid program, as top administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Therefore, the GOP plan is an attempt to inhibit many, perhaps most, of the non-rich from having good health insurance. “Trump says the attendees were “mostly no’s, yesterday” and now they’re all yes’s”. “Some women might want maternity coverage, and some women might not want it”.
Does health care have to be so complicated?
Carbajal has been vocal in his criticism of the repeal bill, blasting it as “a huge tax break for the wealthy” at the expense of the elderly and working people who benefited from the Affordable Care Act. The plan that Trump, Pence and House Speaker Ryan are pushing won’t do that.
“We need to stop in Washington measuring the success of programs by how much money we’re putting into it”, Price said.
