Kansas Defeats Michigan State
Michigan State finished with a 20-15 record, but Izzo said his team, which started three freshmen, gained valuable experience. Defensively, Kansas is allowing 72.4 points against the opposing teams. This is because Jackson is at the center of a storm at least partially self-inflicted.
Jackson was asked about the off-the-court drama in Tulsa and said: “When I step out there on that court, I’m really not thinking about anything else but basketball”.
Jackson and Mason combined for 43 points for Kansas, Bridges scored 22 for MSU. Why should he? The box score revealed enough.
The Kansas star freshman was as advertised Sunday evening in Kansas’ 90-70 second-round win over Michigan State.
Brooks Hepp: There’s something to be made about Izzo’s comments about wanting to play Kansas this year. But I had to fight through for my team.
Much was made of the battle between Michigan State’s Miles Bridges and Kansas’ Josh Jackson on Sunday night. And Michigan State’s future is going to be better for it.
“And they (Spartans) go downhill when they get possession as well as anybody”. The Spartans’ best player was pretty good, too. “It gets a little physical at times. After a while it became easier”.
The NCAA Tournament is full of upsets, but this year has been quite tame.
The Spartans closed the gap and got the lead down to five points entering the break. And KU outrebounded the muscular Spartans, 36-28.
Here’s how to watch Kansas vs. Michigan State online. The kid is a college freshman, the most gifted player on one of the nation’s spotlight teams.
He didn’t need to argue. Jackson already put the emphatic punctuation on the win with 2:05 left, when he raced down the lane for a massive dunk as part of a closing 21-6 flurry. “So we’re all excited”, said senior guard Frank Mason. He was trying to throw down. “I thought they played an exceptional last eight, ten minutes”. But when they cut it to one, that’s when we played our best ball. He’s a great player. His consistency all year has been extraordinary.
“He wanted this game so, so bad, ” Vick said.
After today, we will be forced to soldier through three consecutive days without any basketball. Despite that lack of experience, their strong showing in Friday’s win over Miami and for much of the game against the favored Jayhawks helped ease the frustration of what had been a largely up-and-down season before the tournament.
The Sweet 16 is Purdue’s first since 2010.
It will be the first game back at the Sprint Center for Kansas since they lost to TCU in the Big 12 Tournament March 9. As mentioned earlier, the Spartans were bounced in the opening weekend each of the last two years, an odd occurrence for the guru of March. “This crowd was great (at BOK Center)”.
While Swanigan is the main man for the Boilermakers, and is putting up 18 points per game in the dance, which is actually a tad below his 18.5 points per game on the season, Edwards has taken his game to the next level – and then some – in March.
