Illinois Could Be Loser in Republican Healthcare Plan
It is possible, I assume, that President Trump was the only person in this country who actually believed his campaign promise to repeal and replace Obamacare on Day One or thereabouts.
Price told reporters that he wants lawmakers “to get together and collaborate and come forward with a work product that will respond to the needs of the American people”.
Almost half the money NY would lose in 2021 is because the Republicans would eliminate the Essential Plan, which provides zero-premium health care to people with incomes a bit too high to qualify for Medicaid.
The legislation, now making its way through the House, has been widely criticized.
Supporters of the bill have said it will lead to more choices for Americans and help lower the federal deficit. It would create new, leaner tax credits for health insurance, cap federal spending on Medicaid for low-income people and reverse tax increases on wealthy Americans used to finance Obama’s statute.
He has vowed to do better, promising “insurance for everybody”.
A report by the Congressional Budget Office found the new plan would leave 24 million people without coverage over the next decade.
The “lucky duckies” lose their health coverage, and the spoils go to the following over 10 years – drug makers, $25 billion; insurers, $145 billion; makers of medical devices, $20 billion and high income earners, $270 billion. In addition, the bill would make it harder for many older adults and people with disabilities to live in their homes and communities because it would repeal a financial incentive in the current law for states to provide a home- and community-based option.

That would mean significantly less money for immunizations for children and for programs that aim to prevent heart disease, diabetes and strokes, impeding the department’s ability to manage public health risks.
“This is a major problem, especially considering the fact that health insurers are devising the plans they will offer for the next business year and beyond”, Yoho added. There would be lower premiums to encourage this but not if the older people were buyers.

What’s more, drug coverage for seniors and the disabled will be renegotiated. That number alone should shame any member of Congress who supports straight repeal. And they would be buying less comprehensive insurance. Only two Republican senators can defect from the bill without affecting its chances in the Senate. Under the Republican bill, the tax credit drops by $5,500, and coverage could become unaffordable. When more people are preventing pregnancies, when they’re taking contraceptives regularly – insurance premiums, there’s decent research suggesting they’ll go down because you’ll have less unintended pregnancies.
Once this bill is put to rest, Republicans and Democrats should set aside partisan fighting to save the ACA without destroying it.
