Meals On Wheels Donations Surge
Recently, the national division of Meals on Wheels was showered with online donations after President Trump released his budget proposal. States and cities receive the grants to help them fight poverty, and some of them use that money to help pay for Meals on Wheels programs.
Mulvaney clearly hasn’t done his homework on the Meals on Wheels program.
Volunteers said that when funding for Meals on Wheels is cut, costs are seen in other areas.
“In times when the need for local services is growing rapidly, the proposed funding reductions would be detrimental”, she said.
Several Wisconsin programs and projects may have to deal with budget cuts proposed by President Trump.
“We’re actually saving money by allowing seniors to live in their homes”. We ought to continue investing in programs that are in fact proven and effective.

The program provides about 150,000 home delivered meals every year.
Meals on Wheels programs around the nation are at risk of losing funding.
And, he said, local residents could step up and give more to help their neighbors.
Some of the recipients do not drive and have no way of doing grocery shopping.
“With a wait list of nearly 100 people already, we’re talking nearly half a million dollars that we would probably have to raise in 2018 in order to feed everyone”, said Frost.
The county’s Office for Aging delivers 180 meals to homebound senior citizens each day. Since Thursday, it’s seen a spike in donations, taking in $1,000 over a three-day period, Adler says, where normally “we’d get $100 if we’re lucky”. Another 40 meals are served daily at the county’s five congregate meal sites.
About 69 cents per meal comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture alone. If a social program is worthy, it will attract private-sector support.
“The 150 Club keeps our doors open”, Walcroft said. “It saves America money”, said McCoy.
“I don’t think there’s any question it will have a huge impact on Meals on Wheels”, Mowery said. That number also varies from county-to-county and state-to-state. Centers in Idaho get some money from the Housing and Urban Development block grants, where budget cuts are proposed, she said.
“The president knows who his voters are”, Mulvaney said, arguing that the budget demonstrates “compassion”.
