And nobody reported to police
After the success of its Live video feature, Facebook is looking forward to broadcasting original TV-like programs. “Anyone can report content to us if they think it goes against our standards, and it only takes one report for something to be reviewed”, the company’s website says.
“I definitely think it speaks to people not taking these types of crimes seriously”, said Sarah Layden, who is the interim executive director of Rape Victim Advocates.
She is said to know at least one of her alleged attackers, but it remains unclear how they all knew each other.
A 15-year-old missing girl in Chicago was sexually assaulted on Facebook Live, police said Tuesday.
‘CPD is aware of the social media communication and visits to the family’s home and detectives have filed case reports and opened parallel investigations in reference, ‘ Guglielmi said in a statement. The girl’s mother approached Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson Monday afternoon as he was leaving a police station on the West Side after a press conference. She showed him screen grabs from the video and said that her daughter had been missing since Sunday. None of the 40 viewers had reported the incident through Facebook’s content-review system, but a teenager mentioned the video to Reginald King, one of the girl’s relatives. She was brought to a hospital where she was reunited with her family.
According to authorities, the girl vanished on Sunday after being dropped off at her house. In fact, the girl’s mother said that all the children from the neighborhood are constantly talking about what happened to the girl and that they are making fun of her as often as they can. “I didn’t really want to look at it that much, but from what I saw, they were pouring stuff on her, and just.she was so scared”. It was not clear if the video was still visible on the social media platform. Earlier, the feature was made available to Pages, but now everyone with a Facebook account can go live through a webcam.
Facebook declined to respond to specific questions about the incident, including whether the alleged assault was flagged by any Facebook users.
She also says that since the attack, people have posted threats on Facebook that “they are going to get her” daughter.
