Uber Self-Driving Car Flipped in Serious Arizona Crash
Uber said it was looking into the crash.
Following a crash involving a self-driving Uber test auto over the weekend, the ride-hailing company will reportedly suspend its autonomous testing program, Bloomberg reports.
An Uber spokeswoman further added that no passengers were in the back seat of the self-driving vehicle. The Uber SUV ended up on its side. She said no serious injuries were reported.
Uber has stopped its self-driving auto pilot in Arizona while it launches a probe into the crash.
But that was enough for the company to put a halt to its test program in Arizona, at least until an investigation is completed. Doug Ducey, Arizona’s state Governer Doug Ducy had tweeted at that time that the region welcomed “this kind of technology & innovation”. That’s how the cars ended up being tested in Arizona. But, Uber has now chose to halt operations of its self-driving vehicles across all existing trial locations.
The accident, in which no one was seriously injured, occurred Friday in Tempe, a city in Arizona, Uber said.
“California may not want you”, Ducey said at the time.
The fatal Tesla auto crash from a year ago stirred a great deal of controversy regarding the safety of autonomous vehicles and some concerns are yet to be eased.
Industry observers expect media coverage of and officials’ response to crashes involving self-driving vehicles will shape public perception of their safety.
Uber, on its website, stressed the use of the vehicles was in its early stages.
“There was a person behind the wheel”.
All autonomous cars are now required to have humans behind the wheel to take control of the vehicle if necessary.
