Coast Guard chopper makes emergency landing on golf course
Authorities say a man who went overboard from a vessel spent more than four hours in the waters off the southern New Jersey coast before he was rescued by a passing boat.
The craft landed on the course at Richmond County Country Club on Staten Island around 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Chief Warrant Officer Keith Moore with the U.S. Coast Guard says they got the call at 10:07 this morning that a 23-foot Sea Ray boat hit the base of the Atlantic Beach Bridge while trying to pass another boat. EMS was waiting at the ramp and evaluated the man’s injuries before transporting him to Carteret General hospital.
The Coast Guard showed footage of the man being pulled from the boat and onto the aircraft.
The Coast Guard did not return a message for comment Sunday afternoon for an update on the victim’s condition and how he was stranded in the water.
Crews with the North Carolina Department of Transportation inspected the bridge and reported no damage.
A good Samaritan vessel took the woman aboard and brought her to shore.
The boat was headed east when it struck the bridge.
The press release states the cause of the accident is under investigation.
