House Freedom Caucus must ‘get on the team’

Republicans emerged from a closed-door caucus meeting Tuesday saying they have not abandoned their desire to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, even after their bill was yanked from the House floor on Friday.

Trump went farther on Thursday.

Perhaps the initial tax legislation will start in a better place, the process will be more deliberate, and President Trump will get immersed more readily in something (the tax code) central to his business dealings.

The Senate was skeptical, meanwhile, and the White House, which has suggested it may work with Democrats on a fix, said there’s no immediate plan to revive the push.

Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan, co-founder of Freedom Caucus, said Republicans should figure out how to work together because “there are a lot of big things coming”.

Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y., told Politico it is hard to negotiate with the administration on changes to the tax code while “they make a number of other moves that damage my city, like stripping money from sanctuary cities and cutting money for public housing”.
