Chuck Berry’s Family to Release ‘Chuck’ Album as Planned After Musician’s Death
With Chuck Berry’s biggest fans mourning his tragic death over the weekend, the musician’s family is breaking their silence and shedding light on his final album release. He will be missed but remembered by everyone who ever loved rock “n” roll.
Byrnes and Berry share the same hometown of St. Louis, Missouri. Paisley slipped a cover of the Berry classic “Johnny B. Goode” into his setlist during his Main Stage-closing performance. The album, which contains mostly new music, features Berry playing guitar alongside his son – Charles Jr. – and a trio of musicians known as The Blueberry Hill Band. “For me hearing Maybellene made me realize how much fun rock “n” roll could be, because it is a fun flawless rock “n” roll song and his songs were always fun”. None of us would have been here without you. The first single, “Big Boys,” is available now on iTunes, Spotify and other digital services.
“I found him to be a terrific guy for St. Louis, I mean, he was here for our city from the beginning to the very end and I’m sorry that that end is here”, he says. And throughout the band’s iconic career Berry’s influence was on almost every album, from “I Saw Her Standing There” off Please Please Me to “Back in the U.S.S.R.” off the White Album.
“Chuck Berry rolled over everyone who came before him – and turned up everyone who came after”.
“This record is dedicated to my beloved [wife] Toddy”, Berry said at the time the album was announced. “He influenced everybody from Elvis to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys and everybody since”.
“There’s a saying in Ireland – Have a good look cause you’ll never see the like again”.
Berry leaves behind four children: Darlin Ingrid Berry, Aloha Berry, Charles Berry Jr. and Melody Exes Berry-Eskridge.
