James Harden Refusing To Sit Out Games Despite Injured Wrist
In Robertson’s triple-double season, his second in the National Basketball Association, he averaged 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 11.4 assists.
Those stars are Oklahoma City Thunder’s point guard Russell Westbrook and Houston Rocket’s point guards James Harden.
Westbrook is now two triple-doubles away from tying Oscar Robertson’s single-season record set in 1961-62. He made National Basketball Association history during that Oklahoma City Thunder-Orlando Magic game, recording the highest-scoring triple-double in National Basketball Association history with 57 points.
“He was so locked in on scoring, that’s what they needed”, said Eric Gordon, one of the team’s two significant offseason free agent signings (power forward Ryan Anderson is the other). “But there’s just so many cameras watching and it’s like, ‘Oh what are they talking about, they didn’t look at each other, they didn’t even say hi'”.
The Spurs’ franchise player is enjoying another stellar season under coach Gregg Popovich – averaging 25.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists a game. “For me, I worry about always having my teammates’ backs, and always being out there knowing, no matter what, I’m going to be out there, unless I’m injured”. “He’s surveying what’s going on and what our team needs”.
But more important for the Thunder as a team, a victory would aid their bid to grab home-court advantage for the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. He also set a career high for 3-pointers in a season while the Rockets also broke the National Basketball Association record for most team threes in a season.
“We have to have that killer instinct”, Westbrook said. Everyone wrote the Heat off after their abysmal start, and with good reason: This team has virtually no talent to speak of. However, Harden is also right up there, as he also leads the Rockets in points with 29.3 per game, rebounds with 8.0 per contest and assists with 11.4 per match. Tuesday, the Beard again tried to let them take over, but no one could make shots. But Westbrook’s ferocity, physicality and ability to lock down on defense (when he wants to) might make him the top dog.
“He causes all sorts of problems with him coming down in transition”, Sixers guard Nik Stauskas said, “he kind of just demands so much attention”. That comes out to a triple-double more nights than not, and on some nights the mere stats alone don’t really do justice to Russ’ dominance.
The Thunder recently clinched their eighth-straight winning season.
At least the players understand what Harden is going through, and they are trying to help him out. But which one of these three players should win the MVP.
