‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7 Finale: Who Died & Who Betrayed Rick?
Dwight claims he can be trusted, but given his double cross of Daryl when we are first introduced to him, I’d trust him as much as I would Negan with a hot iron or “Lucille”.
We did get to see over the course of the episode a little bit of a Sasha tribute, as Sonequa explained how it was Sasha’s time to go. In theory, it was brilliant: good old Sash would convince Negan she was all in for some dirty, nasty Rick betrayal, when in reality, her actions would allow Rick the distraction he needed to get the jump on Neegs and the Saviors.
A moment of silence, please, for Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), who died a hero’s death – and very almost took Negan with her. “It felt ideal”, Martin-Green said.
Sasha’s zombie death was a rip-off from Robert Kirman’s comic book, but there the character was Holly, the other woman in Sasha’s life. She’s no longer in the cell at The Sanctuary; the rumble of the road accompanies the melody as she slips into a flashback, featuring a surprise return of Abraham. Sasha would ten use this knife to kill Negan. Instead it bade us farewell with a sappy Maggie monologue in which she reflected on the sacrifices made and the sacrifices to come. Then, when Negan opened the casket to reveal her to the assembled Alexandrians, Zombie Sasha popped out and tackled him to the ground. Before the ride over to Alexandria, Eugene passes Sasha an iPod and tells her how long the ride will take. If it wasn’t for her death, Alexandria would have been in big trouble. She helps “solve some sh*t” for Rick’s crew, because that’s where her true alliance lies. Still, it was a fitting demise for the character who was first introduced during season three as the meek brother to comic book fan favorite Tyreese (Chad Coleman). Unfortunately it looks like their victory will be short lived because Negan is bringing a war to next October’s season 8 premiere. However, she was still a likable character, looking back at her extensive history. She rips up a couple of Negan’s people, successfully shocking Negan and giving the Alexandria gang enough time to get the upper hand. That honor definitely belongs to Sasha!
In an episode that saw many twists and turns, fans and castmembers from The Walking Dead registered their shock and overall delight with how things panned out. She’s even less likable than before, and it’s easy to hope she becomes a casualty in the impending war.

From there, things get a bit insane with an ending for the ages that we won’t spoil here.
It’s that story, which began in 2013 with issue 115 of “The Walking Dead”, that redefined what the franchise was.
