Here Is How Much It Costs To Make A Nintendo Switch
Steamworld Dig 2 developer Image & Form spoke to MCV about how Nintendo is looking to copy Valve’s method of publishing video games on Steam when it comes to Nintendo Switch. Switch is “sold out” at most retailers and showing rare signs of a potentially big success.
The Nintendo Switch is a great console, and even more impressive when you consider the types of games it’s allowing you to take on the go.
Dubbed the “first multifunctional battery case for Nintendo Switch”, SwitchCharge houses a whopping 12,000mAh high capacity battery, which the start-up claims to have “specifically created to push out a high output allowing you to play and charge the Switch at the same time”.
The reason why Nintendo’s console is selling so well is because it’s a hybrid.
The SwitchCharge is scheduled to be released later this year for the Nintendo Switch.
KitGuru Says: $257 for the Nintendo Switch’s BoM might sound steep, yet it is in line with other console launches and relies on a business model focused on the software and gaming accessories, which are never cheap.
One example is YouTube and Reddit user Tettzan Zone, who has managed to stuff his Switch into a modded Nintendo 64 console, redesigned to act as a dock for the Switch. The Switch’s battery, unfortunately, is the real roadblock in that dream.
Jefferies reminds investors that Nintendo has “consistently under-estimated the strength of its popular products”, and that the Switch may be the next case of this. But people noticed more store selling the gray model, than the Blue and Red one. While many of these cards are available at big box retailers like Best Buy and Wal-Mart, in nearly all cases (unless you find a insane deal) they’re cheaper on Amazon. For example, the case is fitted straight on the console thus making the Joy-Con controllers easier to access. For reference, the Switch retails for $300. The Nvidia processor and a “next-gen power supply” are the most expensive of the bunch. IHS had conducted a similar teardown of the XBox and PlayStation back in 2013. Sony sold the console at $399, which means it might have incurred a loss on each unit sales.
“Kingdom Hearts 3” is now under development and is slated to have a PS4 and Xbox release.
