Everything we know so far about the San Bernardino school shooting
Anderson signed in at the front office when he entered the school.
Two students in Smith’s special needs class at North Park School were standing behind her.
Smith was his target and the two boys were hit as he was firing at her, Burguan said. One 8-year-old boy, Jonathan Martinez, died from his wounds. Eight-year-old Jonathan Martinez died at a hospital and a 9-year-old boy remained in stable condition.
As word of the shooting spread, parents raced to the elementary school, some in tears, some praying as they sought information about their children.
Smith leaves behind four children, including Joshua Smith, who said his mother “loved life, her career, and especially her children”.
San Bernardino Mayor R. Carey Davis said he received a call from the White House expressing concern for the students and teachers at the school. He proceeded to her classroom and wordlessly opened fire with a large-caliber revolver.
‘The entire incident is limited to a single classroom. “The suspect had come to the classroom to visit”, police Capt. Ron Maass told reporters.
Following the shooting, police told of searching Cedric Anderson’s house, Monday afternoon.
Anderson had a prior criminal history that included weapons charges, domestic violence and possible drug charges, San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said, though he did not immediately provide any other details. He also posted several photos from early February that appeared to have been taken on their honeymoon in Sedona, Ariz. He also said, “She knows when to ignore me”, as he laughed and smiled. “It makes a happy marriage”.
The police chief also said a note believed to be from Anderson had been found that talked about needing closure and feeling disrespected. Police converged on Smith’s home in Riverside looking for clues about what triggered the shooting as neighbors said the couple had seem nice, but mostly kept to themselves.
The two married in January, but had known each other for about four years. Knowing that she’d likely have to put her daughter in therapy to deal with the trauma of seeing her teacher killed, Elisabeth couldn’t stop wondering, “How did he get in?”
Numerous parents of the school’s 600 students were at home when the blaring sounds of emergency vehicle sirens shattered the morning quiet of their neighborhood.
Young children were seen holding hands as the rushed to safety.
The shooting was first reported at 10:27 a.m. local time at North Park Elementary School in San Bernardino, California.
‘The truth of the matter is when people get fed up, people get killed! Rather, it was an act of domestic violence, the kind that occurs every single day in the United States.
The shooting came 15 months after a terror attack in San Bernardino that killed 14 people and wounded 22 others at a meeting of county employees.
“There was no indication to anyone on staff that there was a potential threat”, San Bernardino City Unified School Superintendent Dale Marsden said Tuesday. Welcome to a fearless new America….
