AMD Ryzen 5 1600X and 1500X CPU Review
The base Ryzen 5 1400 comes in at $169 while the Ryzen 5 1500X comes in at $189.
AMD has announced its new mid-range offerings in direct competition with Intel’s Core i5 and It boasts some strong points in comparison with its competitor.
The six-core and quad-core Ryzen CPUs are essentially built using the same eight-core dies from Ryzen 7.
The Ryzen 5 quad-core offer is quite interesting, as the Ryzen 5 1500X packs 8MB of L3 cache, works at 3.5GHz base and 3.7GHz Turbo clocks and has the same 65W TDP.
Today, you can see that some of these CPUs – the Core i7 7700K and Core i7 6700K – have increased ever so slightly in price since the Ryzen launch. Yet they have been sorted and reconfigured. With 6 overclockable cores and 12 threads, its competitor would be the 0 Core i7-6800K in a vacuum-but we don’t live in a vacuum. That also invokes corresponding caches, TDPs and yes, these processors are all threaded and multiplier unlocked as well. And like the high-end Ryzen 7 1800X, the 95W Ryzen 5 1600X will ship without a bundled cooler.
The recent innovation from AMD’s incubation is well equipped to pit Ryzen 5 1600X against Intel’s Core i5 model, the 7600K. But after a month of optimizations plus new drivers and BIOS updates, Ryzen 5 seems to have bypassed those same growing pains. By having the pins on the CPU itself (PGA) rather than on the motherboard (LGA), he said there was much better contact between the cooler and the processor.
As the B350 boards aims to serve a more mainstream audience, you’ll also likely find fewer power phases and smaller heatsinks on some models. All of the specs have been put to the table and it is time to justify the performance.
These cuts include a £46 reduction in price of the the Intel Core i7-7700, and more modest, but still significant, cuts across the Core i5 range that AMD’s Ryzen 5 is squarely aimed at. We also pulled two of four memory modules we had installed. Despite its lower cost, the 4C/8T Ryzen 5 1500X competed very well with the four core/four thread Core i5-7600. Earlier on referred to as SR7, SR5 and SR3, matching up with Summit Ridge (SR) and thus a performance segment denominator. Featuring Prey, A 2017 released video game developed on CryEngine, the Ryzen 5 seems to be flawless for video games.
As expected, AMD has officially launched its Ryzen 5 series of CPUs targeted at home and business PC users.
All in all, not what we expected, much less what consumers needed.
What is an AMD Ryzen 5? If we take a look from another perspective, Ryzen 5 can accommodate some hefty streaming workload so while it may not be the fastest gaming chip, it will offer gamers lots of muscle to stretch while streaming games to other audiences without lagging.
