NFL Draft Rumors: Myles Garrett, Mitch Trubisky Battling For No. 1
At the NFL Combine, he performed like an athletic freak, and then improved on those numbers at his pro day.
The No. 1 pick comes with a spotlight and speculation.
But there are no indications any other team is willing to draft him that high, and the Browns pick again at number 12 which, while still something of a reach, at least allows them to pick up a generational talent like Garrett. No, this is not a joke.
He’s free to declare the organization’s love for a player and intention of taking him No. 1.
Howard has been projected by some as a top 10 pick, which would leave another notable absence near the top of the league’s television show.
The NFL announced Thursday night the 22 prospects and 13 college coaches confirmed for the first round April 27. “I’ll knock your QB out of the game every time we play you, and I’ll have to kick the hell out of No. 1, whoever it is”. Texas A&M won 45-24.
I don’t think it makes a whole lot of sense there. Joe Haden wasn’t bad, but his game has gone by the wayside the past two years. It’s the Browns, we’re talking about. But when veteran coach started talking about how he prefers his quarterbacks to be at least 6-foot-2 this offseason, some major red flags were thrown up. It would seem even the Browns are doubting themselves.
Selecting third, the Chicago Bears are one of the few teams who can nearly guarantee that they would still get their quarterback after a trade down.
This week has already been called quarterback week for the Arizona Cardinals, and for good reason. But that’s completely beside the point. Also, players who grew up in the area get an invite as well. Clever GMs. Guess what the Browns have never had. He’ll draw double teams, opening up opportunities for Ogbah and Danny Shelton on the interior. He is adept at breaking tackles and explodes in the second level after contact. After a one-win season, Jackson’s probably feeling the pressure to dramatically improve, and with the prospect of Cody Kessler being his starting quarterback in 2017, you can’t blame him for being anxious.
Will there be a Mitchell Trubisky at 12 this year?
Garrett would have to be the first pick.
Fortunately for the Panthers, they should have a great opportunity to get a star running back at No. 8 in the 2017 NFL Draft.
And, he’d be a bonanza for the 49ers, who want to upgrade their pass rush in a scheme that is expected to feature a 4-3 base defense in which Garrett could be at home at defensive end.
The first round of this year’s draft is going to be one of the most intriguing ever. While players like Dalvin Cook and Christian McCaffrey are intriguing, the team desperately needs to find its cornerbacks of the future. The implication is that the Browns may be gun-shy about the possibility of passing on another potential franchise quarterback.
Hood was graded 118th among 122 qualified interior defensive linemen by PFF last season.
