Kate Mara and Michael B. Jordan Are Patient Saints
“You’re white and black”.
Fantastic Four is set to hit theaters on August 7th, with Josh Trank (Chronicle) directing a cast that includes Miles Teller (Whiplash) as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara (House of Cards) as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station) as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Jamie Bell (Nymphomaniac) as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Doctor Doom, Reg E. Cathey (House of Cards) as Dr. Storm, and Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk) as Harvey Elder/Mole Man.
When Fantastic Four debuted in 1961, Marvel literally didn’t exist – the company wouldn’t officially adopt that name for a number of years – and creators Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were simply following an instruction from publisher Martin Goodman to come up with something similar to the best-selling Justice League of America from competitors DC. “How does that happen?”
The up-and-coming actors look slightly bemused, but luckily Jordan is able to quickly answer: “They could be raised as brother and sister. More of a family dynamic”.
As for Rickman, he couldn’t believe Mara had traded her long, auburn locks for a new pixie cut.
“You’re way, way hot”, he said. Why’d you cut the hair?
Last week, Cara Delevingne secured a place in the awkward celebrity interview hall of fame, after an interviewer on Good Day Sacramentointroduced her as “Carla”, before suggesting she “take a little nap”.
“This is a great interview”, Mara said before explaining that it was for a movie and it’s none of your business, you sexist radio turd.
“What would you cut your hair for?” he continued.
“They asked me to!” she exclaimed.
Rickman revisited the topic when asking about the movie’s franchise potential.
Rickman, also known as Southside Steve, asked Jordan and Mara, “From what I’ve seen, you’re brother and sister”.
Bailey jumped in to ask if his colleague was being “creepy”, but Rickman had something else he wanted to mention.
Steve then makes the most awkward statement yet, telling Mara, “I’m a toe guy, your toes are fine”.
Bailey defended himself in an interview with Buzzfeed, saying the questions were “absolutely not” meant to be incendiary.
Changing tactics, Rickman commits another spectacularly inappropriate lapse by commenting on Mara’s haircut and attractiveness. Steve likes girl’s toes. This one very much is to get them to that point, to take them from people you don’t know, to transition into characters you can recognize.
Talk of The Fantastic Four 2 may be premature.
