Starbucks calls shifting-color drink a “Unicorn Frappuccino”

How, exactly, does a drink become unicorn-themed? Gen Z, a group that grew up with social media, is poised to surpass the millennial generation in size, and may be more influential than their slightly older peers. So, don’t expect every store to know what secret menu drink you are ordering. A similar promotional Starbucks drink, the Pokemon GO Frappuccino, had 48 grams of sugar and 7 grams of saturated fat in a tall beverage. To be honest, the colors are really unnatural.

Remember, there is no blue food (blueberries aren’t blue). The colourful drink is a mixture of soft purple and blue, topped with cream and dusted with coloured sprinkles. Other than that, there’s milk, pink powder, blue powder, and blue drizzle.

The purples, fuchsias and pinks remind me of the fluffy unicorn in Despicable Me, without the fluffy part.

These days, unicorns are often represented in a very colorful way.

‘This drink is basically pure sugar. and it’s so pretty!’ wrote another.

The bigger question for curious consumers is probably how the drink tastes.

A drink that changes from tangy to tart without a wand? It’s a creme frappuccino with mango syrup. From what I could tell, each of the current customers had no idea what I had ordered. I had a frappucino phase in my life, but that has (thankfully) passed me by. If you like sour Skittles, Warheads or any of those types of treats, this drink is for you.

At least now I have an idea of what a unicorn tastes like. The mango tries to balance the sour. What does sour blue powder taste like? But that’s a lot of vertical mixing, and I’m just sitting here with a straw and a bunch of deteriorating foam up top. I’m already feeling bad for baristas everywhere who have to add syrup, drizzle, whipped cream, and powder toppings to the regular frappuccino.

On a scale of one to five, how would you rate this drink? They were thought to be impossible to catch, which is why no one had ever seen one.

If you don’t believe in living the caffeine-free life (because how will you get through the day?!), the Unicorn Frapp is also not for you because it doesn’t contain coffee.
