Explosions shock congregants at 2 New Mexico churches
Our team is now working on two explosions at two churches in New Mexico. Parishioners were gathered inside the church at the time of the explosion, but services had not yet begun, the statement said.
Less than half an hour later police were dispatched to Holy Cross Catholic Church, at 1327 N. Miranda St., where an explosive device detonated inside a trash receptacle near the front entrance of the parish.
“I was right in the middle of saying the words “take and eat, this is my body” and there was a Pow!”
FBI, Las Cruces PD, Doña Ana County S.O. are still at the scene. “But it was very loud, and I just kept on saying the words”.
At the end of the Lord’s Prayer, the pastor sent a deacon to find out what had happened, and it was reported that a bomb had exploded in a trash can outside the front glass doors, shattering the thick glass.
People were inside both churches at the time of the explosions and have been evacuated.
It has prompted speculation that the explosions are related as the churches are less than four miles apart.
Sullivan described how bomb sniffing dogs blocked off streets and searched the local area.
However, police spokesman Dan Trujillo said they are still investigating. Trujillo said police are advising them to look out for anything suspicious, but don’t inspect anything themselves. “If you have any suspicion of anything that’s out of the ordinary, please call to police and leave it up to the officers to look it over”.
