In London, a troop of the Royal Horse Artillery rode horse-and-gun carriages past Buckingham Palace before firing a 41-gun salute in Hyde Park at noon.
The monarch has given herself the day off from formal engagements and will mark the milestone privately at her home near London, where royal gun salutes will mark the day later Friday.
In 2015, she surpassed the reign of her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, to become the longest-reigning British monarch and the longest-reigning queen regnant and female head of state in world history.
Britain’s Queen Elizabeth celebrates her 91st birthday o. George chose to combine his new “birthday” with the spring military parade referred to as Trooping the Colour, where soldiers march with their colors for show, the Telegraph reported.
The Queen earned the nation’s love and admiration by refusing to be political as well as making her family’s image become more modern.

While it is not known what the Queen has received for her 91st birthday, she is known to favour practical gifts over more extravagant presents.
