Titans draft Western Michigan receiver Davis with No. 5 pick
Q: Which combine metric do you put the most value in?
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers wide receiver Taywan Taylor (2) carries the ball during the first half against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared the news, while adding Titans General Manager Jon Robinson is considering a potential move down in the draft.
Robinson was only kidding, of course, but his debut performance previous year certainly had the feel of cinematic success.
You might think this was a reach, but let me explain.
Tennessee has been seeking more help for Mariota as the Titans chase their first playoff berth since 2008.
Why did the Titans pick Jackson?
“There were good football players on the board when we picked [Thursday]”, Robinson said. So I’m excited to potentially get the chance to protect for him. Carraway could be a steal and an important player on special teams.
The Titans had two spots in the first round – Nos. (I like) just his swagger.
Jackson is now USC’s 497th pick in the NFL Draft all-time and the 80th Trojan to be selected in the first round. His versatility – he even worked in practice at center – makes him valuable as a backup on the offensive line. I think it was a relatively easy decision I should say. “I’ve got to prove these guys right and just do whatever they need me to do”. Davis, a first-team All-American, had six catches for 73 yards and a touchdown in that game.
On Thursday night, the Western Michigan product by way of Wheaton Warrenville South, made more history when the Titans picked him fifth overall in the National Football League draft, the highest a Mid-American Conference receiver has been chosen. But as far as potentially being able to protect for Marcus, it’s going to be great. Their top pass-catcher last season in San Diego was 6-foot-4 Tyrell Williams, who could team with his new teammates to provide an imposing size matchup for any defense.
“I’ve heard Tennessee, Philly, Cleveland, Baltimore and Arizona”, said Davis.
Robinson said this week that it’s “50-50” as to whether the Titans actually will pick at Nos. The Titans also have the 18th pick.
Looking at the NFL Trade Chart, the fifth overall pick is worth 1700 points, while the 12th overall pick is worth 1200 points.
“This draft stacks up pretty well for us”. “And I’m a culture guy”.
Robinson said he doesn’t get nervous about the draft but admits he is anxious to get it started. “I kind of take that attitude as I take the field and do whatever I can to get a little extra yard because every inch matters”.
