Dallas Gunman Is Dead, Firefighter Is Critical
In 2004 he lead protests against DPD and previously the leader of the New Black Panther Party.
The chaotic scene from that horrific day raised concerns about the safety of paramedics trying to aid the wounded during an active shooting, but NBC 5 has learned that those bulletproof vests are only given to Dallas paramedics in limited situations. No other details about the neighbor or the paramedic, including their names, have been released. Officers took cover from the gunfire, he said.
A neighbor, identified by police only as a 24-year-old Latin male, heard the gunshots and went outside to investigate.
Four people were shot in a Dallas neighborhood Monday morning in an incident which officials described as a dispute between two neighbors that escalated to deadly proportions.
Randy Blankenbaker and Jason Evans stand near a photo of William An, the paramedic shot by Derick Brown. The victim is in surgery at Baylor Medical Center, the Dallas Morning News reported, and the gunman is still at large, Dallas police told Mic. An EMT-Paramedic was hit.
The paramedic and neighbor were critically wounded.
“The sergeant went above and beyond, as numerous Dallas police officers do each and every day, and subjected himself to extreme risk of danger”. When the first officers arrived, the suspect approached and opened fire.
After Brown killed his roommate, Blankenbaker said, Brown’s girlfriend fled the home.
That officer was identified Monday evening as Sgt. Robert Watson.
Police said they sent a robot into a house where they believed the attacker was barricaded and found the suspected shooter, who had taken his own life, along with the body of a second person.
“All of these officers’ actions are more than commendable and should be considered heroic”, Blankenbaker said.
The suspect was found dead from a “self-inflicted wound” in a nearby home searched by a police robot, said Mayor Mike Rawlings.
Another man was found dead inside the same home, police said.
At least 40 police units have responded to the location in East Dallas, according to the Dallas Police Department.
An and his wife Jayne have a three-year-old son and are now expecting a second child.
An, 36, is in critical but stable condition at Baylor Medical Center in downtown Dallas.
“The information I have received up to this point is that he has been in and out of sleep and able to verbalize things to the medics”. You never know what they’re going through.
The paramedic, a firefighter, was in a critical condition and had “coded” three times.
Court records show Brown had a long criminal history, including an assault charge, several DWIs, and gun offenses.
A law enforcement source familiar with the investigation confirmed the page belonged to Brown.
